DETOX TEA

This tea is incredible. Herbal tea's in general are so good for you as herbs, if used correctly and combined with the right components, have the ability to sooth, calm, cleanse, detoxify and even repair your body and heal ailments. Herbs and spices have been used for decades in traditional medicines and their healing properties set them apart from other natural ingredients. This recipe in particular is known as detox tea because of each individual ingredient. The aniseed soothes the stomach and aids digestion. Celery seeds help to regulate the body's cellular processes. Fennel has been used as a mouth freshener for centuries, and is also known to relieve indigestion, constipation, respiratory disorders and menstrual pains. Milk thistle is an anti-inflammatory antioxidant that has been proven to lower cholesterol and is also used to treat liver problems. And cardamom, as well as being incredibly delicious, can aid digestion, combat nausea, bloating and acidity in the body and in Ayurvedic medicine it is valued as an anti-depressant.

This tea is the perfect after dinner drink. Drinking it before bed or in the morning on an empty stomach will work to cleanse the body of toxins and encourage a sounder sleep.

INGREDIENTS
Makes One Pot

1 Teaspoon Fennel Seeds
1/2 Teaspoon Milk Thistle
1/2 Teaspoon Liquorice Root
1/2 Teaspoon Cardamom Seeds
1/2 Teaspoon Celery Seeds
1/2 Teaspoon Aniseed
1/2 Teaspoon Coriander

METHOD

Simply take a tea strainer or a teapot with a built-in strainer if you have one and fill it with all of the dried ingredients. If you don't have a strainer of any kind, you can make a temporary tea bag using a corner of your nut milk or jam straining bag, or if you don't have one of those either, simply use a small sieve and sit it in the water for 3-4 minutes. Place the strainer or sieve into your mug of choice and fill with boiling water. Let sit to infuse for at least 3-4 minutes. The longer the better, and if you have a tea strainer, you can even leave it in like you would a herbal tea bag, to intensify the flavour and really draw out all of the goodness.

(If you only have a large sieve, add all of the ingredients to a mug, cover and fill with boiling water, let sit for 3-4 minutes and then strain the entire drink through your sieve, before returning the infused water to a clean mug).
